Auckland Airport handled more than 649,000 passengers in April, almost 7% more than in the same month last year earlier.
Traffic from Singapore increased by more than 40%, with Jetstar Asia completing its first full month of service. China Southern airlines also began running three return flights per week.
Arrivals from Japan fell more than 44% during the month, but arrivals from the Britain, Australia and Germany rose sharply.
Domestic passenger numbers were flat.
