German prosecutors have opened an investigation into former Volkswagen chief executive Martin Winterkorn, over suspected market manipulation relating to the VW emissions scandal.
The prosecutors say there are signs the company may have held back from admitting to cheating on its vehicle emissions tests in order to influence the company's share price.
