The Auckland Council is well on track to surpassing a $7.2 billion visitor economy by 2021, it says.
The council said the visitor economy totalled $6.5 billion last year.
Mayor Len Brown said there was a 15 percent increase in visitor numbers in 2015, up to 2.1 million people.
He expected a 30 percent increase in cruise ship visits to Auckland, bringing in more than 100,000 visitors.
