Police say there is no evidence a man arrested following a shooting in Gisborne was involved in the incident.
Three people were injured on Tuesday evening in Totara Street, where a large number of gang members had gathered.
A teenager, a 12-year-old girl, and a young woman turned up at Gisborne Hospital with gunshot-related injuries, police said.
Officers arrested an 18-year-old man they had stopped while carrying out a patrol at another location.
He was charged of being in possession of an offensive weapon, but police said today there was no evidence he was involved in the shooting.
Police were still trying to find the people responsible for the shooting, they said.
Officers want to hear from anyone in the community who could help identify them.
