A Supreme Court Justice in Samoa has blamed a woman for failing to protect her daughter from being sexually abused by her father.
The comments came during the sentencing of a 47-year-old man, who was found guilty of raping his step-daughter five times, starting when she was 13 years old.
The victim told Justice Mata Tuatagaloa that she had told her mother about her husband's actions.
TV1 Samoa reported Justice Tuatagaloa saying the mother had failed to protect her child.
The man was sentenced to jail for 17 years and four months.
