Emerging designer funding boost

Dunedin Fashion Week has received a $10,000 boost organisers say could help generate more international interest in the New Zealand fashion industry.

Dunedin City Council is giving $100,000 of funding to the iD fashion show - up $10,000 on last year - in order to enhance the emerging designer category.

Event organiser Victoria Muir said it was the only category of its kind in the country, and had had finalists from India, China and Europe and Shanghai.

"That is the event that is really growing and becoming popular with international fashion students and people and media attending."

Ms Muir said the interest is beneficial to the whole industry and gets New Zealand designers on the map.
