Christchurch City Council has given the green light to a temporary events hub that will be set up in North Hagley Park.
The hub will provide space for performances and events, following earthquake damage to many of the city's main venues.
A number of temporary venues are planned and a large dome is likely to be used as a Rugby World Cup fan zone.
Other events include a TV2 Kids' Fest and a buskers' festival.
Several smaller domes are proposed for hire by community organisations in need of a venue.
The temporary hub will be in place from July until the end of January next year.
