Recruitment firm says windfarm good for trade jobs

A recruitment company says a proposed Wairarapa wind farm, would provide jobs for tradespeople prior to the rebuilding of Christchurch.

Genesis Energy has lodged a resource consent application for a 286-turbine wind farm in Castle Hill, which would be one of biggest in the southern hemisphere.

The company predicts the wind farm would create 185 full-time jobs for the two years it would take to build, and employ up to 40 people once it was operational.

Chris Rofe of Tradeze, a company which recruits skilled tradespeople, says the rebuilding of Christchurch will not provide employment for trades workers for a while, so the proposed Genesis project would offer useful jobs.

He says the wind farm would create work for companies, upskill labour and there would be a large flow-on effect for trades including engineers and electricians.
