An unusually large number of government workers are resigning and filing retirement requests with the American Samoa Government Retirement Fund.
The board's chair, Va'anatiu Iafeta Tofala, hasn't give an exact figure but says the number of those leaving the government by either resigning or retiring is unusually high.
Va'anatiu said number one on the list of government employees putting in their retirement papers are teachers with many saying they are going off island.
A signficant number of employees from the American Samoa Telecommunications Authority are also resigning or being terminated.
