13:04 pm on 5 January 2019

An elderly person has been treated for smoke inhalation after a fire in Timaru last night.

The house fire in Dobson Street in Gleniti started about 11.15pm.

Crews from Timaru, Temuka and Washdyke were called, and the fire was extinguished by 3am.

Southern Fire shift manager Dan Reilly said the fire is not being treated as suspicious.

"However we do have a fire investigator on scene this morning to investigate the cause," he said.

Mr Reilly said the house was badly damaged.
