A French Polynesian delegation has launched its one-week visit to China with a promotional push of the territory as a tourism destination.
A statement issued by the presidency in Papeete says the team, led by the president, Edouard Fritch, has been giving media interviews to make Polynesia better known.
The group has also met the French ambassador in Beijing, with France pointing out that Chinese visitors to Tahiti no longer need a visa for stays shorter than 15 days.
The delegation, which is on an official visit, has also met the head of the Chinese Development Bank.
The visit will include a stop in Shanghai for discussions with potential investors as economic ties have picked up momentum.
Three weeks ago, the French Polynesian government and Chinese investors formally launched a massive aquaculture project on Hao atoll, expected to cost 1.5 billion US dollars.
