A gale wind warning remains in force in Niue as tropical cyclone Victor is passing to the south of the country.
The category-three system has sustained winds of about 130 kilometres an hour near its centre as it is moving in a west-southwesterly direction.
The cyclone passed west of the Cook Islands and according to forecasters, it should weaken by Friday when it is expected to be off the south of Tonga.
