New Zealand has appointed Sue Mackwell to the position of High Commissioner in Papua New Guinea.
Foreign Minister Murray McCully says New Zealand and PNG enjoy a strong relationship with the two working closely together in areas of sustainable economic development, agriculture and renewable energy.
Mr McCully said PNG is New Zealand's second largest trading partner in the Pacific.
He said PNG has an abundance of natural resources, and New Zealand shares an interest in helping make sure the assets deliver benefits to the people of the country.
Ms Mackwell is currently National Children's Director of the Children's Action Plan in New Zealand.
