Three people have been seriously injured in six-car pile up on Hutt Rd at Kaiwharawhara in Wellington on Saturday.
Police say up to eight people may have been involved in the crash, three of whom may be critically injured.
Hutt Rd was closed to both northbound and southbound traffic after the crash, which happened about 11.30am. Diversions were in place as the road was due to remain closed until 3pm.
The Police serious crash unit was at the scene.
