Former Maori Party MP Rahui Katene says she's put her name forward to be selected to contest the Tai Hauauru seat because she has tribal ties to the electorate.
Ms Katene lost Te Tai Tonga under the Maori Party to Labour's Rino Tirikatene in 2011.
She is one of six people to throw their name in the hat for Te Tai Hauauru, which is held by the retiring MP Tariana Turia.
Ms Katene says she has unfinished business at Parliament which she wants to complete, such as combatting child poverty.
The Maori Party will announce its Te Tai Hauauru candidate on 8 December.
