Three staff at Christchurch's Burwood Hospital have tested positive for Covid-19, after treating dementia patients from Rosewood Rest Home & Hospital.
Six of those patients have died from Covid-19, and eight remain isolated at the hospital.
The Canterbury District Health Board began providing staff with more protective equipment Wednesday including full-filter N95 masks and full-face visors instead of goggles.
But it has faced criticism from the nurses union, which said the equipment should have been made available a long time ago.
The virus has also spread to three people who are contacts of Burwood Hospital staff.
The Rosewood cluster has 36 cases in total.
