The latest expenses for MPs and government ministers are out, including ministers' credit card statements - and they show that spending is down.

Overall spending by ministers on accommodation and domestic and international travel is down for this year's first quarter - which includes the Christmas holiday period - by about $500,000 to $1.46 million.

MPs' expenses for the same period are also down nearly $500,000, to $1.49 million.
