The Commonwealth Utilities Corporation has conveyed that the current power infrastructure could last only until 2017.
It said power generators are on average are 30 to 35 years old, and while it could probably maintain current demand, further development required new investment in the power infrastructure.
There are about 12 projects in the pipeline that are expected to join the utility's power grid.
