A Waiheke Island high school's water supply has been contaminated with E coli.
Waiheke High School board of trustees chair Andrew Walters said the levels of E coli in the water were found to be unsafe for drinking on Wednesday.
He said the school had stopped using bore holes and rainwater and had would be used instead of filter systems.
Mr Walters said no one had become sick after drinking the water and families had been notified.
He said he was still unsure what had caused the contamination but the school has been asking the Ministry of Education to upgrade its water supply for quite some time.
