Australia's Department of Immigration and Border Protection confirmed 41 people living at the facility had contracted the mosquito-borne viral disease by the end of March.

There are 373 refugees or asylum seekers living at the centre.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, four people had been medically evacuated to Australia as a result of their condition.

Authorities have declined to say how the infection rate changed in April.
