Niue church row still unresolved

14:14 pm on 15 August 2012

The head of the Ekalesia Niue congregation, Reverend Arthur Pihigia, says he is not yet able to comment on a stand off in the village of Hikutavake where the congregation has been shut out of the village church.

It is claimed that the local MP, Opili Talefasi, placed padlocks on the building, barring the congregation more than two months ago.

Hikutavake was the site of several arsons and other violent incidents last year following the election of Mr Talefasi as the MP.

While the Reverend Pihigia and other church officials won't comment it is understood that Ekalesia Niue will take legal action to have the doors re-opened as quickly as possible.
