The Cook Islands Ministry of Transport, along with shipping and port operators and stakeholders, want to see more effort in the sector to cut greenhouse gases.
This came at last week's workshop on the energy efficient running of ships from the Maritime Technology Cooperation Centre in the Pacific.
The workshop talked about new technologies, tools and methods to monitor and reduce fuel oil consumption on ships and so cut emissions.
The director of Maritime, Ngatokorua Ngatokorua Jnr said the Cooks is committed to reduce its carbon footprint while aiming for its national vision, "to enjoy the highest quality of life consistent with the aspirations of the people, and in harmony with the culture and environment".
