The vintage Kingston Flyer train business in Central Otago has been sold to a group of local investors.
The business includes 14 kilometres of track running across almost 80 hectares of land between the town of Kingston, at the southern edge of Lake Wakatipu, and Fairlight Station.
The trains were originally used for a passenger service between Kingston and Invercargill in the 1890s.
Frequent efforts have been made to keep the service alive as a heritage attraction.
A spokesman for the Tourism Properties listings website, Adrian Chisholm, said the sale, for an undisclosed amount, opened up the possibility of developing further tourist attractions.
