Fiji has called on the United Nations to lead and support Pacific efforts to tackle growing security challenges around climate change.
Addressing the UN Security Council in New York this week, Attorney-General Aiyaz Saiyed-Khaiyum said climate change was a threat - not only to Fiji - but the world.
He added the international community must confront the security consequences arising from climate change-induced natural disasters.
"The extreme weather catastrophies and their frequencies such as major floods, prolonged droughts, record-shattering heatwaves and super cyclones tell us that the natural world has fundamentally changed.
"The gap between extreme weather events is becoming less and less."
