Tonga police have launched a homicide investigation after two fishermen found human remains early on Christmas morning.
Police said the remains were found around 3am on 25 December, on the seabed at the Yellow Pier in Nuku'alofa.
"The human remains have been transferred to the mortuary at the Vaiola Hospital awaiting thorough examination by a pathologist, to assist police investigations and hopefully with identification of the deceased," the police statement said.
Tonga police were urging the public for any information that may help with their investigation, including information on any missing persons which may have not reached police.
People were asked to contact police on 922, 740-1630 or 740-1632.
