Samoa's internet regulator says the embattled Chinese telecoms company Huawei is welcome to bid for 5G infrastructure in Samoa.
Australia and New Zealand have blocked Huawei from building 5G networks, while British telecoms giant BT Group will strip the company from core networks.
Japanese media are today reporting that Japan will follow the United States in banning government purchases of Huawei gear.
Regulator Lefaoali'i Unutoa Auelua-Fonoti sais she was satisfied with the checks Digicel and Bluesky have done in Samoa.
She said no governments had directly raised issues with Samoa.
"It's something that we have to look at if it happens here. Both service providers are using Huawei equipment, so we have been given the assurance by the service providers that they have looked at the issue.
"If something comes up, we're not going to sit here. We'll definitely have to do something about it," she said.
