09:03 am on 17 June 2009

Michael Campbell will be the first New Zealander to tee off in the first round of the US Open golf championship at Bethpage State Park in New York on Friday morning.

Campbell is away at 8.28 local time with Japan-based David Smail starting his round at 12.42, and the surprise qualifier Doug Batty has been drawn in the last group at 2.42.

The British bookmakers William Hill are quoting Tiger Woods at less than 3 to1 to defend his title, with the world number two Phil Mickelson second favourite at 14 to 1.
