Next phase of Kopu bridge begins

16:13 pm on 2 November 2010

The next phase in the construction of the two-lane Kopu bridge near Thames has begun.

A temporary working platform is to be built, extending from the eastern bank of the Waihou River. The remaining five bridge piers will be built from this platform.

The project, aimed at easing chronic holiday-time congestion, is due for completion in mid-2012.
