Asian community in Botany worried about who will replace Wong

Some members of the Asian community in the Botany electorate say they are worried about who will replace Pansy Wong as their MP.

Mrs Wong has announced her resignation from Parliament, with a by-election due to take place in March.

She had resigned as a Minister last month over the misuse of her international travel subsidy, and an inquiry later cleared her of any systematic abuse.

Property developer Kit Wong says he supported her regardless and thinks it will be difficult to find another MP who can bridge the gap between the Asian community and the wider population.

Constituent Jenny Wong says Pansy Wong has worked tirelessly for the community, citing in particular her weekly meetings with new migrants in particular, while Frankie Ho says Mrs Wong has done a lot of work for New Zealand.
