Concern at car window washers' behaviour

22:22 pm on 5 February 2014

A group of businesses in South Auckland say window washers at intersections behave dangerously and are an ongoing concern.

The Auckland Council is considering a law amendment that would allow it greater powers to fine and prosecute windscreen washers.

Strategy and policy committee acting chairman Arthur Anae said the council has been against windscreen washers for some time but has not had the power to do anything.

Manukau Business Association spokesperson Charlotte McCort told Radio New Zealand's Nine to Noon programme on Wednesday that window washers are a constant problem and they need to be addressed.

However, Ms McCort is open to the possibility of legalising the activity if it can be made safe for everyone involved.
