The network said it aimed to bring together journalists interested in reporting on environmental issues and give them the space, training and resources to do so.

The president of the Pacific Islands News Association Moses Steven said it was good that the Pacific told its own stories instead of overseas media reporting on Pacific issues.

Earth Journalism Network's Imelda Abano said it ws important to have such networks to strengthen and improve the quality and quantity of environmental reporting in the Pacific.

Former Fiji journalist and now Tonga-based media consultant Iliesa Tora was elected PEJN president.

PEJN's secretariat is in Tonga but membership is open to journalists from across the region.
