Dairy farmers in eastern Waikato and Coromandel say they hope that the heavy rain which has caused localised flooding will ease on Tuesday, as many of them have herds in the middle of calving.
Bad weather has disrupted travel in Waikato and Coromandel, including closure of a main route on the Coromandel Peninsula.
MetService has since forecasting further heavy downpours for western Bay of Plenty and Gisborne on Tuesday.
MetService says 207mm of rain fell in 24 hours at one of its sites on the Coromandel Peninsula.
Forecaster Mads Naeraa says Auckland and Northland also experienced heavy falls.
Kevin Robinson from Hauraki-Coromandel Federated Farmers says farmers in the region are experienced in dealing with rain, but if saturated land gets much more rain, it will be at the worst possible time.
"Calves are being born all the time," says Mr Robinson. "Calves become vulnerable (to illness) in this sort of weather.
"It comes down to whether people can cope in the conditions".
