The New Zealand women's 470 crew of Jo Aleh and Olivia Powrie have overcome fickle winds to record their first win at the world sailing champs in Perth and move up to sixth overall.

The Olympic board sailing champion Tom Ashely has slipped to fifth overall after a disappointing 12th in his latest race while Jean Paul Tobin is in the 12th spot, with only one race completed yesterday because of conditions.

In the men's laser category Andrew Murdoch continued his consistent form and remains inside the top ten overall.

Peter Burling and Blair Tuke had only two of their three scheduled races in the 49er class and are sixth overall.
