Police were called to a property on Hei Hei Rd in the suburb of Islington just before 12.30pm, a police spokesperson said.

The nearby St Bernadette's School was placed into lockdown as a precaution.

A staff member at the school confirmed to RNZ that the school is no longer in lockdown, and that the children have been allowed to leave.

Hei Hei Rd is closed between Wycola Ave and Tirangi St while police investigate the incident.
