Beach setting for signing of settlement

05:53 am on 9 September 2011

After a 20 year wait, an Auckland sub-tribe will settle its Treaty claims on Friday morning with the Crown.

Ngati Whatua o Kaipara says its people are preparing to let go long-standing grievances and collectively become millionaires overnight.

The hapu is getting back a forest, schools and a housing block.

Aotea-Shelly Beach reserve, near Helensville, is the scene for the signing of the settlement deed at 11am, with some dignitaries due to arrive by boat.
