Australia increases aid to Fiji with record commitment

The Australian Government will provide nearly 57 million US dollars in official development assistance to Fiji this financial year.

The 18 per cent increase from the previous year's allocation delivers on a promise to double the size of AusAID's bilateral budget to Fiji over two years.

Fiji Live reports the Counsellor for Development Assistance in Fiji Joanne Choe says they are very proud to provide the aid and this proves Australia's steady commitment to the people of Fiji.

AusAID says it is focused on helping the poorest children to attend school more regularly and working to see more babies growing safely through their early years.

Food security and increased incomes for poor families are other areas where funds will be applied.
