The Government has released a smartphone application allowing students to easily compare the job prospects, training and incomes of 50 possible careers.
The Occupation Outlook report and mobile application aimed to assist young people in study choices, both at tertiary and secondary level, Minister for Tertiary Education, Skills and Employment Steven Joyce said.
Mr Joyce released the Government's third annual Occupation Outlook report yesterday in Auckland.
The best salaries and job prospects were in civil engineering, software development, environmental science, accountancy and law and medicine.
Those areas offered salaries ranging from $60,000 to more than $150,000.
Work as a truck driver earned about $50,000, a receptionist about $40,000, and work in hospitality offered about $35,000.
Mr Joyce said it was more important than ever for students to carefully consider their study options.
