Martinborough's water supply will be chlorinated while work continues to track down the source of ongoing E-coli contamination.
A boil water notice has been in place for the Wairarapa town since the bacteria was detected on 9 April.
It's the second outbreak this year.
At a special meeting today, the South Wairarapa District Council voted to temporarily chlorinate.
Mayor Viv Napier said council officers were investigating the potential impact of chlorination on the vineyards and breweries, and would be working to ensure it doesn't hurt their business.
The temporary chlorination will begin on 13 May.
