French Polynesia gets new land law

The French Senate has approved a bill allowing for a better land management in French Polynesia.

The new law will make it easier to deal with land succession problems which have become cumbersome because of the dispersion and number of heirs.

As a result, it will now be possible for one of the members of a family to represent an entire branch of this family.

According to the French justice minister Nicole Belloubet, locals have been keenly awaiting these changes as they take into account French Polynesia's culture.

At the start of a visit of French Polynesia last week, she formally opened the land court in Tahiti.
