The Chiefs and former All Blacks number eight Sione Lauaki has been charged with assault.
The charge relates to an early morning incident, at a central city Hamilton bar last week.
A statement from the Chiefs franchise says neither the franchise, or Lauaki, will be making any comment until the matter has been through the court process.
The statement says the matter will also be dealt with by the New Zealand rugby union's disciplinary process.
