Delmaine subsidiary closing sites, shifting staff

18:57 pm on 5 December 2009

About 100 employees of a Delmaine Fine Foods subsidiary are being told to relocate from Tauranga and Christchurch to Auckland if they want to keep their jobs.

The subsidiary, Allberry House, is closing three of its five existing sites and setting up a new facility in Mt Wellington to replace its East Tamaki head office.

The firm will shut its Tauranga-based ingredients factory by this time next year; 73 staff will be affected.

One of the company's two sites at Hornby in Christchurch is also being shut, with more than 20 positions relocated north.

The general manager of Allberry House, Peter Tinholt, says the Tauranga factory is very old and unable to be upgraded.

He says the move will not take place till next October.
