Foreign Minister Winston Peters is set to travel to South Korea and Japan on Sunday, returning the following Saturday.
In a statement, Peters said New Zealand enjoyed "warm and enduring relationships" with both countries.
Along with Australia and New Zealand, Korea and Japan are members of the IP4 grouping of NATO regional partners.
Prime Minister Christopher Luxon is attending NATO in Washington DC this week, including meeting with leaders from other members of IP4.
Peters said his trip would include the Pacific Islands Forum leaders meeting in Tokyo.
He also planned to have talks with Korea's Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul and National Security Adviser Chang Ho Jin, and bilateral meetings with Japanese ministers and Pacific leaders.
