The Nauru government says Australian banks want to resume services on the Pacific island nation now it has been taken off an international money-laundering blacklist.

Nauru was removed from the global Financial Action Task Force blacklist on the 13th of October- five years after it had been put there.

Cabinet minister Kieren Keke said Nauru had received genuine interest from Australian commercial and banking institutions to re-establish services there.

Mr Keke says Nauru has implemented an offshore business registry that meets international requirements.
