The university is working with the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme with nearly US$20,000 per year for three years available to two PhD candidates.

The first research project offered is to examine the impact of invasive species on ecosystem recovery and the second focus is coral reef ecosystem adaptation to ocean acidification.

Previous students on the programme examined plastic pollution effects on human health, monitoring river catchments, and the remediation of oil from World War II wrecks.

Applications are open to citizens from Pacific Island nations who meet the academic criteria and close on 26 July.
