The MP for Manurewa says failed laws around the sale of alcohol will boost her call for another review.
New research from Massey University shows law changes to curb binge-drinking introduced six years ago have largely failed.
It found local policies are being undermined by the appeals of alcohol suppliers, whose resources are often greater than those of councils and health boards.
Labour MP Louisa Wall introduced a member's bill aimed at ensuring local alcohol policies carry more weight.
The new research highlighted that the current legislation was not fit for purpose, she said.
"This is timely, from my perspective, because of the discussions that we're having at select committee but really it's going to be now how the select committee respond to this evidence," she said.
Community input into policy had been largely ignored, Ms Wall said.
The select committee is now hearing submissions to the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Renewal of Licences Amendment Bill.
