Vintage red wine selected for PM's dinner

A 24-year-old vintage of New Zealand's greatest red wine will be a feature at a dinner New Zealand Prime Minister John Key is hosting on the eve of the Rugby World Cup final.

His department has chosen Coleraine 1987 from Te Mata Estate in Havelock North, along with the more youthful 2007 version, as the wines that 180 guests will enjoy on Saturday night.

Te Mata chairman John Buck says the last 18 bottles of the 1987 Coleraine in its cellars are being provided for the dinner.

He sees some irony in a claret style wine featuring on the menu, with France contesting the final.
