A young man is in the intensive care unit in Wellington Hospital after a car hit a train near Blenheim.
The man, 18, was transferred by helicopter from Blenheim on Sunday night.
Wellington Hospital describes him as a serious condition.
Another young man, aged 17, was taken to Wairau Hospital with moderate injuries. He is in a stable condition.
