"I'd lost my confidence, three years on the dole."

Some of RNZ's big names come out from behind the microphone to talk about their upbringing and careers in Behind the Mic, a series of video interviews.

RNZ's The Panel host Wallace Chapman is interviewed by RNZ social media producer Jogai Bhatt.

Wallace talks about how a rare illness led him to his first radio gig after being on the Invalids Benefit for three years, and how this affected his confidence.

They also chat about his favourite interviews, and the one interview that made him cry on air.

More interviews and other summer content can be found here on RNZ's newly launched Summer 2020 site.
