Police have lifted cordons around Longburn, near Palmerston North, after a disorder incident.
Armed officers were at the scene but moved on about 1.15pm.
Police said it was believed weapons were involved in the incident.
There was a police presence in the small town while officers worked to determine the situation.
The police said the Armed Offenders Squad was notified.
Longburn School was put into lockdown as a precaution.
