Niue will soon be hosting its first ever culture and arts festival with the aim of reconnecting Niueans offshore with their heritage.

The Ministry of Pacific Island Affairs is promoting the event which is to be held in the middle of April, after two years of planning.

Its Chief Executive Dr Colin Tukuitonga says the aim is to encourage Niueans in New Zealand to reconnect with their homeland and take the opportunity to experience Niuean culture and establish links with their home of origin.

He says the festival would also contribute to Niue's future development with cultural tourism, offering a unique visitor experience.

The week-long festival will include an variety of song, dance, film, cultural sports and language workshops.
